BGY GRAN FONDO

The BGY Airport Granfondo is an international competition dedicated to cycle tourists, scheduled for one of the first two Sundays in May in Bergamo. Always a land of sport, Bergamo and its province are the home of unforgettable two-wheel legends and extraordinary tourist beauties.

The area's love for cycling can also be seen thanks to the “Il Caravaggio” Milan Bergamo Airport, the first bike-friendly airport in Europe: through its innovative cycle/pedestrian ring, it is in fact possible to reach the heart of Bergamo directly by bike.

After the first edition dated 5 May 1996, the BGY Airport Granfondo quickly became a point of reference in the Italian and global granfondo panorama, and is still included in the calendar of the International Cycling Union. The event, now in its 26th edition, is suitable for cyclists of all levels and ages.

One of the cornerstones of the BGY Airport Granfondo is the "slow ride" philosophy: given the amateur nature of the race, the most correct approach is to participate with passion and spirit, balancing the competitive aspect and healthy fun with common sense.

The Bergamo cycling event is also an excellent means of discovering the beauties of a generous and varied territory from an architectural, natural and even food and wine point of view: in addition to a city that still jealously preserves buildings and memories of the past, the province has unmissable lakes , mountains and valleys. For lovers of two wheels, Bergamo means Selvino, so much so that it has named the hairpin bends with the names of great champions of the discipline.

BGY Airport Granfondo firmly believes in the educational value of sport, as a universal value that breaks down all cultural barriers. From this perspective, cycling is a discipline that teaches the value of effort and commitment, perfectly embodied by the people of Bergamo.

Precisely because of these values inherent in cycling, one of the objectives of the BGY Airport Granfondo is to involve an ever-increasing number of cyclists, promoting cycling as a means of environmental education and respect for nature. The opening of the event to all types of bicycles, muscular and electric, road or mountain bikes, tandems, graziellas and so on, should be seen precisely in this sense.

To allow a large and varied audience to participate in the event, the BGY Airport Granfondo offers 3 different routes, better known as the Short (89.4 km route), the Medium (128.8 km route) and the Long (distance 162.1 km). Based on training and level of preparation, each athlete will be able to choose the distance most suited to their characteristics, finding excellent organization and high safety standards in every situation.

Organizing this race is a second job, but at the same time a great passion. The same one that the organization led by Giuseppe Manenti and his GMS puts into every piece that makes up the event in its entirety: from routes to safety and rescue, from promotional and advertising material to PA bureaucratic management and logistical services.

To provide more information, the organizational secretariat is open almost 365 days a year.
